After months of speculation, Gisele Bündchen announced her divorce from Tom Brady on October 28.

In an Instagram Stories statement, the supermodel explained that the couple had “grown apart” after 13 years of marriage. The exes wed in 2009 and share two children: 12-year-old Benjamin and nine-year-old Vivian. He also shares a 15-year-old son named Jack with his ex Bridget Moynahan.

“With much gratitude for our time together, Tom and I have amicably finalized our divorce,” Bündchen wrote. “My priority has always been and will continue to be our children whom I love with all my heart. The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”

Brady put out a statement of his own, writing, “In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage. We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to ensure they receive the love and attention they deserve.”

He continued, “We arrived at this decision to end our marriage after much consideration. Doing so is, of course, painful and difficult, like it is for so many people who go through the same thing around the world. However, we wish only the best for each other as we pursue whatever new chapters in our lives that are yet to be written.”

Rumours of a rift between the pair began circulating after Brady went back on his decision to retire from football by signing on for another season with the Buccaneers in March. An interview with Elle added fuel to the fire as Bündchen opened up about her “concerns” with Brady's quick return to football.

“Obviously, I have my concerns—this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” she told Elle in September. “I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again. But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy too.”

She continued, “I’ve done my part, which is [to] be there for [Tom]. I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams.”

Earlier in the interview with Elle, Bündchen said, “I feel very fulfilled in that way, as a mother and as a wife. And now it’s going to be my turn. It’s not like I’m going to be in the [career] valley forever.”

In October, news broke that Gisele Bündchen had hired a lawyer, while People reported that Tom Brady was “trying to figure out what to do.” However, he made his priorities pretty clear during a recent press conference.

“I love the sport, I love the teammates, and I want to go do a good job for this team like I always have,” he said. “So no retirement in my future.”
