There is no hotter, more dazzling beauty muse in the world right now than Sharon Stone. If you don’t believe me, a quick glimpse at the 63-year-old’s Instagram account will swiftly set things straight. From the Met Gala to Cannes Film Festival, give Stone an event and she will approach it with aplomb, making her exactly the icon we all need in 2021.

Exhibit A, and some of the most recent evidence of Stone’s fabulousness: a slew of holiday snaps in which the actor outshines her dazzling ocean backdrop while reclining on rocks in a plunging black swimsuit. Shades on, lithe limbs positioned just so, she is undoubtedly living her best life – and looking flawless while she’s at it. “Self-care matters,” she wrote in the caption for one post, which had famous followers – from Naomi Campbell to Jamie Lee Curtis – expressing their appreciation in the comments.

Then we have Stone’s recent red-carpet appearances, for which she has favoured show-stopping gowns laden with embellishment or layers of frothy tulle – the very opposite of a wallflower. The ensembles are one thing, but it’s her glowy skin, wide smile and mussed-up pixie cut that really steal the show each time. As well as embracing her real skin, smile lines, and smattering of silver hair – always refreshing in Hollywood – what really makes Stone so spellbinding right now is her evident zest for life in her seventh decade.

“I’m just happy – a happy person,” she once said. “The idea that being youthful is the only thing that’s beautiful or attractive simply isn’t true. I don’t want to be an ‘ageless beauty’, I want to be a woman who is the best I can be at my age.” Clearly she is making good on that promise. Stone says what she wants, does what she wants and enjoys her life to the fullest. While it is common to see disinterested smoulders on the red carpet, Stone always looks unquestionably pleased to be there, flashing her enchanting smile and posing playfully for photographers.

“Sharon is fearless and her zest for life is infectious,” says her make-up artist of over a decade, Amy Oresman. “She understands what real beauty is: self-love and self-care. Her looks are timeless because she knows beauty is not an hourglass, slowly dripping into nothingness.” Oresman says that Stone is a big fan of Augustinus Bader’s Rich Cream, Tom Ford’s Traceless Foundation, and “basically all of Tom Ford’s beauty products, because he really understands women and allure at all ages”. Her go-to beauty look incorporates buckskin nudes and a warm, peachy complexion, always with “a dash of sparkle”.

“She is, once again, leading the charge and showing that women are as jaw-droppingly beautiful at 63 as they are at 27,” adds Oresman. It’s a lesson we can all take from Stone: choose happiness  – and smile. Because on-trend haircut or not, we all look good when we do that.
