Actor/director Robert Redford got his start in television, but really got on the road to stardom after appearing in the 1969 film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" alongside Paul Newman.

His directorial debut came with 1980's "Ordinary People," for which he won an Academy Award. After founding the Sundance Institute in 1981, Redford became very involved with independent film, and still serves as the nonprofit's president.
