The increased pressure on male models to be thin has so alarmed the organiser of one of the country’s biggest fashion events that he has banned “unhealthy-looking” underweight men from his catwalks.

Gavin Brown, who has been organising Clothes Show Live events for 21 years, has been vetting models and rejecting those who look like they are starving themselves.

“It is to ensure that they look healthy and don’t have the bony legs and stick-y arms that are the precursors to anorexia,” said Mr Brown.

In castings for Clothes Show London, which opened at Earls Court yesterday, hopefuls had to pose in their boxer shorts so that there was no question of skeletal figures being hidden under clothing.
