Pisco is a distilled spirit that is deeply woven into Chilean culture, where pisco grapes are exclusively grown in the two northern regions of Atacama and Coquimbo. The low humidity and warm temperatures of these regions give grapes a high sugar content that leads to the signature taste of Chilean pisco.

For several generations, the family owned Bou Barroeta pisquera having been producing varieties of the spirit in the heart of the Huasco valley. To emphasize the passion that goes into developing the unique characteristics of their six piscos, Bou Barroets wanted a label that reflected the quality of the raw material and craftsmanship that takes grapes from vine to bottle.

With that in mind, Chilean design agency JVD Estudio set out to create a visual identity that underscores the premium nature of the collection, and pulls out the personality of each individual pisco.

“From the design we wanted to speak a language of high-end distillates with a composition whiskey style.” says María Jesús Vial, Owner of JVD Estudio. “We seek that every detail highlights the name of each pisco, its denomination of origin and years of storage. Always reflecting high quality and differentiation. We bet on a vertical format in order to highlight the characteristic interior of the Bou Barroeta piscos, with the clear objective of creating a single piece where all the elements live together.”

The piscos were divided into three families, and JVD Estudio paired each with specific design, colors, and label materials that reflected the ageing-related charactics of the group.

“Rested in Steel” is the group of fresh, highly aromatic piscos matured in stainless steel for 12 months. Sea-toned blues are printed on the stippled texture of Fasson® Cuvée Martelé Blanco paper that allude to the minerals of northern Chilean that are key to a refreshing pour of pisco.

“Aged in Raulí” is the group that goes a little further in the ageing process. These piscos are matured in barrels of red-toned hardwood for three years to bring out amber colors and distinct aromas. The elegant diamond embossing of Fasson® Cuvée Pampa was chosen for this family, combined with sophisticated colors and details for a premium label look.

“Aged in Oak” is the group containing Bou Barroeta’s most complex piscos. Noor and Luxtelle are rested in oak barrels for four and nine years, respectively, where they develop deep flavors and layers of dimensions that make them stand-out in the world of pisco. For Noor, the eroded copper details on Fasson® Cuvée Pampa paper evoke the romanticism of a multi-generational pisquirea. For Luxtelle, the striking Fasson® Cuvée Black Vellum paper and intricate design instantly brings to mind luxury and elegance.

In addition to the premium textures, the three Fasson® papers selected by JVD Estudio have a special Wet Strength treatment for waterproof labels that hold strong in an ice bucket.

"We seek to match the premium quality of our products and their image.” says Denees Naim Bou, Commercial Manager of Bou Barroeta. “This new design highlights this quality, which we believe is presented as one of the best labels on the market in the pisco business and responds to our manual process of distillation, labelling, bottling and packaging.”
