When it comes to the red carpet, James Marsden is among the best dressed. Of course, he doesn’t achieve his step-and-repeat swag by himself. He’s got stylist Ilaria Urbinati (who also works with Rami Malek, Tom Hiddleston and Ryan Reynolds) by his side. So how do the two work together?
“Here’s how it works: She dictates what I wear, and I nod my head and say ‘OK,'” Marsden told Pret-a-Reporter with a laugh as he sat with son Jack at Todd Snyder’s spring 2017 show on Thursday. As far as the best style advice she’s given him, it’s simple. “Listen to her,” teased the actor.
Beyond just simply listening to his longtime style guru, the Henchmen star said he’s learned to “keep it strong and simple. Less is more. But you have to have one good, bold element.” Marsden should have had no problem finding that during Snyder’s latest runway presentation.
The designer, whom Marsden first met at the 2014 CFDA Awards, presented a Monaco Grand Prix-inspired collection that offered driving jackets in eye-catching colors (bright green and royal blue), striped seersucker shorts and tailored tracksuits. Select pieces from the range are already available for purchase on toddsnyder.com.
Asked what it is that he looks for on the runway, Marsden — who sat front-row alongside Kellan Lutz, Andrew Rannells, Sebastian Stan and model Johannes Huebl — shared: “I’m 42, so things just keep getting funkier and funkier. I’m actually looking for little traces of classic simplicity. And also, it’s just fun to see what people might be doing.”
