In Memory Of Elizabeth Taylor, A Tribute To The Girl With The Violet Eyes

Elizabeth Taylor, the girl with the violet eyes, died this morning of congestive heart failure at the age of 79.

The Oscar-winning actress led a full life—she starred in more than 50 films, married 7 times, held long, close friendships, fought for causes she believed in—and did it all with elegance. She had presence, the kind that old school movie stars were made of. And her eyes. Who could possibly not comment on her eyes?

They were the rarest color, a soft violet that you just couldn't look away from.

They were breathtaking, but perhaps never more so than when she played Cleopatra opposite Richard Burton (whom she would marry twice):

So, so lovely.

Or course, Elizabeth will be remembered for more than just her eyes. She'll also be remembered for her talent, loyalty, tenacity and generosity.

RIP, Elizabeth Taylor. You were one of the last great movie stars and a true icon.
