James Marsden has addressed his absence from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The Cyclops actor said that he is "excited" to see where the 20th Century Fox franchise goes next under returning director Bryan Singer.

Marsden's character was killed in The Last Stand and will not return for the latest film. Patrick Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier met a similar fate in the film but will nevertheless star in Days of Future Past.

"I've always been very proud of my role and it's out of my hands," Marsden told Crave Online. "It's nice to see Bryan go back in and turn the boat a little bit.

"I'm happy for those that made it back. I'd like to. I get excited watching the trailers because I'm excited for the continuance of the X-Men world. I'm a fan of X-Men and I know it'll be a kick-ass movie."


Marsden also starred in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns.

He can currently be seen with Elizabeth Banks in Walk of Shame.

Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore are among Singer's other returning actors.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released on May 22 in the UK and the following day in the US. Watch a trailer for the film below:
