Mark Salling, who played Puck on Glee, died on Tuesday following an apparent suicide, law enforcement tells TMZ. The 35-year-old actor's lawyer, Michael J. Proctor, has confirmed the death in a statement: "Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected." (via Us Weekly)

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that Salling's body was found hanging from a tree near a riverbed in the Sunland neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he lived. According to the site, after police received a call to perform a "welfare check" on the actor, they were "somehow" led to a baseball field, where his body was found. One TMZ source says a family member went to the LAPD in person to report Salling as a missing person at 3 a.m.

Salling was awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography involving a prepubescent minor. In October 2017, prosecutors recommended a four to seven year sentence as part of a plea deal that required him to register as a sex offender and enter a treatment program. His sentencing was set for March 2018.
