Mexican singer and actress Dulce María is making her grand debut on Telemundo’s Falsa Identidad, now in its second season, which is se to premiere Sept. 22.
The RBD alum joins the suspenseful, drama series as Victoria Llamas, a passionate and fearless woman who will fight for justice – a characteristic she can relate to.
“Victoria is very much about doing things the right way to seek justice for others, and she’s very passionate about defending the people she loves. That’s me 100 percent.” says Dulce María, who began acting at age 5 and starred in the hit telenovela Rebelde, which led to the formation of chart-topping band RBD.
Falsa Identidad is based on a story of two complete strangers who are forced to flee their home state of Sonora, México and adopt false identities to escape their traumatic past. Ahead of the second season’s premiere, Billboard caught up with Dulce María for 20 Questions where she talked about quarantine and what RBD’s arrival to digital streaming platforms means to her.

1. What’s the first piece of music that you bought for yourself?
Savage Garden’s self-titled debut album.
2. What was the first concert you saw?
I was like years old when I went to see Alejandro Sanz.
3. Who made you realize you could be an artist full-time?
I started my career at a very young age. I mean by the age of five I was already acting and doing commercials. So, it was definitely my mom because she was by my side all the time until I became an adult. She supported me and took care of me.
4. How old were you when your mom stopped going to all your shoots?
At 18, I told her ‘mom, I think I’m good.’ You know it made no sense for both of us to be there 40+ hours and for both of to be super tired.
5. If you could see any artist in concert, dead or alive, who would it be?
I would’ve loved to have seen Janis Joplin and would like to see Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.
6. If you were not a musician, what would you be?
I was always really interested in like graphic design so if I wasn’t an artist, I’d probably be creating or designing.
7. How did your hometown/city shape who you are?
I was born and raise din Mexico City and still live here but I think what shapes a person is the people that surround you like family and friends. When I was very little so I had many responsibilities already and that also shaped who I am today.
8. Is there a character you’re dying to take on in a telenovela or television series?
I would love to take on a role that’s more action-packed where I’d have to train and exercise in order to physically prepare for this role of a heroine.
9. What are you afraid of?
I’m afraid of the unknown.
10. What’s the last song you listened to?
“Oceans Away” by ARIZONA
11. Is there something you learned to do while in quarantine?
I’d love to say that I learned to bake but I didn’t. I did learn the proper way to peel a tuna cause I didn’t know before.
12. Have you tried making tuna juice?
Actually no. I’m not there yet. I’m sure that’s really refreshing
13. What else have you been doing while in confinement?
I’ve really focused on meditating and connecting with God and pray. I’ve invested so much to this emotional side and being mentally stable.
14. What’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?
To enjoy every phase or to not worry so much.
15. You’re making your grand debut on Telemundo, what does this mean for you?
I’ve been watching what they do for a while now and all their series/telenovelas have been great and different to what others are doing. I had been wanting to work with them for a while so I’m very happy.
16. What made you say yes to being part of Falsa Identidad‘s second season?
As an actress this series challenges me a lot because it touches on more difficult topics and my character is a strong woman, so it’s different to everything else I had been doing. All of those elements combined made me say yes.
17. In what ways do you identify with your character Victoria Llamas?
Victoria is very much about doing things the right way to seek justice for others. And she’s very passionate about defending the people she loves. That’s me 100 percent.
18. In what ways are you different from her?
At the same time, she’s very structured and while she might be fuming inside for something that’s made her mad, she stays calm, cool and collected. I am definitely not like that.
19. What can people expect from the second season?
Like the first season, it’ll hook you from day one. Everything can happen on season two and this time around we’re exploring really important and timely topics that are actually happening in real life.
20. What does it mean to you for fans to have access now to RBD’s music?
For them to be able to achieve this because it really is thanks to them that this happened. It’s the music of an entire generation and it includes me. It’s huge and I’m glad they can now play them whenever.
