Book is dedicated and Inscribed ? To Winnie, in memory of the happy hours spent together during our college life. - a token - June 20th 1915 - END - Rabindranath Tagore attended University College London in the late 1870?s. - He arrived in England in 1878 with the intention of pursuing a degree in law. During his time in London, he briefly enrolled at University College London. However, he did not complete a formal degree there. - Tagore's stay in England had a significant influence on his intellectual and creative development, but he eventually returned to India and pursued a different path, focusing on literature, music, and cultural activities. - "Gitanjali" can be translated to "Song Offerings" or "Offering of Songs" in English. This collection, first published in 1910, is one of Tagore's most celebrated works and a significant contribution to world literature. The poems in "Gitanjali" are deeply spiritual and explore themes of devotion, love, and the relationship between humanity and the divine. Tagore's writing in "Gitanjali" is characterized by its lyrical beauty and profound philosophical insights. The poems are a reflection of his deep connection to nature and his exploration of the human spirit's yearning for a higher spiritual reality. - Notably, Rabindranath Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for "Gitanjali," making him the first non-European to receive this honour. His poetry continues to be admired and celebrated for its universal themes and timeless beauty. - Condition and Description: Hardback book of blue cloth with gold/gilt lettering and decoration to the front board. The colour has faded on the spine and corners. Light soiling. Firmly bound to the page block. - The endpages are browned and foxed and it is on the first blank end-page that the inscription can be seen. The page edges are rough-cut; a sign of the times. The pages are browned with light foxing throughout. - Overall, a wonderful condition for a rare book of 108 years old. - I cannot authenticate the dedication but I assume a token would be from the author.- Book will be sent in 1 to 2 days and be fully insured during transit. I always use a Tracked and Signed for service where available, or Tracked where Tracked and Signed are not available. - Thank you for your interest. - END. Seller Inventory # 001419
