William H. Macy Says He 'Loved' Wife Felicity Huffman the 'Second I Saw Her'

"Our marriage is a fairytale marriage," he said

William H. Macy knows just how lucky he is to be married to Felicity Huffman.

Macy opened up about his 22-year romance with Huffman during an interview with Willie Geist on Sunday Today, calling their marriage a “fairytale.”

“Our marriage is a fairytale marriage,” he said. “I loved her the second I saw her.”

And while the Shameless actor said being with someone who is also in the entertainment industry can be hard, it’s what bonded the couple in their early days of dating.

“We talk about showbiz a lot,” he said. “We give each other notes. It’s not something everyone should try. She can be tough, and I can be tough, too. We met in the theater and that’s really at the core of our relationship.”

Macy, 68, and Huffman, 56, dated on and off for 15 years before finally tying the knot in 1997. The two share daughters Sophia Grace, 18, and Georgia Grace, 16.

Back in 2014, Huffman said she and Macy love being parents to teenagers.

“Getting into the car to come here, I suddenly realized we didn’t call a babysitter,” Huffman told PEOPLE before attending Showtime’s pre-Emmys party. “It’s a reflection of my parenting. I quickly taught them how to use the alarm system and was like, ‘Bye, sorry!’ ”

The Hollywood power couple also encourages each other’s success.

Last year, Huffman stepped out with Macy to support his nomination at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

“I am very calm and supportive, as are you, I have to say,” Huffman said to her husband on the red carpet.

Macy responded, “It’s always been that way with us. She’s never wanted anything for me but good things. I’m a lucky guy.”
