Celebrate the festive season this year with adidas Originals‘ upcoming Stan Smith “Christmas Monster.” Inspired by the classic 1984 film Gremlins and its rare sapient Mogwai characters, the sneaker sports an upper that’s covered in faux hair in the brown and cream colors that are found on the animals, while other details around the shoe further nod to the film.

Drawing most directly from the character Gizmo, adidas Originals creates an asymmetrical design that features brown faux fur on the lateral of one side, and the medial on the other. The same goes for the cream faux fur which also finds itself contrasted on either side of the shoe depending on each foot.

Other unique elements include the lack of branding. Typically, a Stan Smith features perforated Three Stripe detailing on the mid-panel, an OG Stan Smith stamp on the tongue, and a Trefoil stamp on the heel. None of this appears this time around, with only the midsole branding stepping in to let you know this is adidas’ doing.

Elsewhere, the Gremlins’ eyes have been added to the heel tabs, while the insoles are colored in the same tone as the character’s skin. And as a nod to not getting the Gremlins wet, adidas Originals has wrapped the entire pair in GORE-TEX. A final touch of attention to detail comes in the form of the shoe box, which is designed like the wrapping paper that’s used for Billy’s gift in the film.

Take a look at the adidas Originals Stan Smith “Christmas Monster” above, and pick up a pair at stockists such as 43einhalb for €119.95 EUR (approx. $145 USD) on December 19.
