Edith Shain, who appeared in one of the most famous images of the 20th century, has died at age 91. Shain, a young nurse working in Manhattan, went to Times Square on August 14, 1945 upon hearing World War II was over and was swooped up by an unidentified sailor who grabbed her for a prolonged liplock. The image, which was was captured by Alfred Eisenstaedt, appeared on the cover of Life magazine and is now forever linked with V-J Day.
