Leipzig: Heffe, c1800. Leather. Very Good. 6.5" by 4.5". None. An uncommon edition of Heinrich Heine's works. Originally published as a set of as twelve volumes in four books, the present two books contain volumes four to nine of of Heinrich Heines completed works. An uncommon edition, published by Heffe. The present two volumes include Heine's tragedies, comedies, and travel writing, along with a discussion of the History of Religion and Philosophy in Germany, an essay on the Romantic School, and finally, an in-depth discussion of the state of France. The nineteenth century German poet, writer, and literary critic is best known for his early lyric poetry. Heines' poetry was frequently set to music in the form of Lieder or art songs by composers such as Robert Schumann and Franz Schubert. In a brown quarter leather binding over patterned boards. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, particularly to the edges. Rubbed to the head of the spine, with a little chip in the calf to the head of the earlier volume. Lightly rubbed to the joints and the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light foxing to the front and rear of the volume, pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good
