ORIGINS OF VIÑA QUINTAY

A group of friends from Casablanca gathered together in 2005 to form Viña Quintay in order to produce the best sample of Sauvignon Blanc in the Casablanca Valley. Thus began the production of other varieties some years later: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from the Casablanca Valley, all of extraordinary quality.

A PRIVILEGED LOCATION

Viña Quintay is located in the Casablanca Valley, a coastal plain off the Santiago-Valparaiso highway in Chile’s 5th Region. This valley has been internationally considered as the best in Chile for the production of white wines.

 

 

  

COOL VALLEY

The winemaking history of Casablanca Valley dates back to the early 1980´s thanks to the area’s climatic characteristics much influenced by breezes from the Pacific and soils suitable for growing grapes. Slowly but surely, it has become one of Chile’s favourite valleys for wine-industry projects.

  
 
 

QUINTAY: GO WITH THE FLOW

The name “Quintay” is from the native Mapudungún language, which honours the zone’s original inhabitants, the Picunches, meaning “Go with the Flow”.

LA CLAVA: EMBLEM OF THE LEADER

“Clava” is the carved and polished stone emblem used by the Picunche tribe chiefs, who years ago inhabited the Casablanca valley (900-1500 AD). Today, it is the symbol of Viña Quintay, which uses grapes from this exceptional valley in its quality wines.

CALETA QUINTAY

A fishing village known as “Caleta Quintay”, is a place in the Casablanca Valley which is close to the sea, some 30 kilometers to the west of our winery.

Q GRAND RESERVE

The Quintay Q line, of limited and exclusive production, is where the identity of the origin of our wines is best expressed. Quintay Q is produced from selected fruit from one to three specific blocks of the vineyard. Oenologically speaking, we seek to intervene the least possible in order for the terroir to speak for itself in these wines.
 

CHARACTERISTICS

“Wines with Identity” best explains the concept of the Quintay Q range, where the wines are made to reflect the unique characteristics of their particular vineyard sites. Our winemaking approach is non-interventional, allowing the wine to take its own path. The Q range offers an incredibly interesting wine tasting experience where, due to the nature of producing wines from exclusive plots of land, the Q range of wines are available in only very limited quantities.

Q Sauvignon Blanc

 

It is pale yellow with tones of green which initially give an impressive aroma of herbal flavor followed by an intense and persistent citric taste. It has an elegant taste full of character. Its fresh and balanced acidity stands out which is typical of a Sauvignon Blanc from the Casablanca Valley.

Q Chardonnay

 

The Chardonnay grapes are influenced by the cool breeze from the Pacific Ocean which passes through the Casablanca Valley. This combined with delicately, handpicked grapes before fermentation helps preserve and produce the best and most intense aromas. The final product is produced after ten months of fermentation in French oak barrels which are chosen specifically to enhance the fruit and its freshness achieving great complexity, elegance and aging potential in the final wine.

Q Pinot Noir Rosé

 

Cooled by the nearby Pacific Ocean, Pinot Noir in the Casablanca Valley ripens evenly during Chile´s summer months. Our grapes are handpicked and carefully sorted before fermentation. Red cherry and fresh strawberry aromas, which follow onto the palate, where the delicate fruit concentration is balanced by the natural acidity. Seductive, alive and persistently fresh.

Q Pinot Noir

 

A deep red colour with a frank and expressive aroma. It has tinges of rose-hip, black fruits such as blackberry, redcurrant and spices which are emphasized when integrated with fine French wood. Together this produces a fresh and delicate wine combined with the acidity characteristic of the Casablanca Valley. This is a complex Pinot Noir that well represents its origin.

Q Syrah

 

A deep red colour with a hint of purple. Its aroma is intense, spicy and very complex. It tastes of red and black fruits with subtle tinges of pepper and bay leaf. This perfectly balanced wine is due to the characteristic acidity from the cold climate of the Casablanca Valley and to the gentle presence of elegant tannins, blended over time in French oak barrels. The final result being the perfect example of smoothness, complexity and elegance.
 

CLAVA RESERVE

The Clava range, is our Reserve range of products. The main characteristic is to have a premium value, granting wines exceptional elegance at a reasonable price. These wines display all the minerality and typology of the valleys of Casablanca and Leyda, for Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay in whites and Pinot Noir and Syrah in reds, together with the purest expression of aromas, flavors and intensity of each grape. For the Cabernet we have chosen the best valley in Chile, the Maipo, and for the Carmenere, our vineyards in Rapel.
 

CHARACTERISTICS

Showcasing the very best of their region, the Clava Reserve wines focus on displaying the optimal purity of the fruit. Only the most premium grapes from a selection of prominent vineyards are used to ensure a wine of the very best quality. Typically rich and fruit-driven with ample weight, concentration, and intensity of flavour, these wines are designed to benchmark the vintage and region from which they come, while displaying the pure characteristics of the variety.

Sauvignon Blanc

 

The Sauvignon Blanc Clava is yellow-green in colour, very aromatic and its noble complexity is highlighted by a mixture of citric, herbal and tropical taste. The flavor is balanced and fresh with great elegance and intensity which is very characteristic of the Casablanca Valley. Perfect for cocktails. Drink chilled between 8 and 10 °C.

Chardonnay

 

A yellow straw colour which brings together characteristic aromas of this variety with elegance accompanied by a taste of dry and tropical fruits. Its smooth taste is complemented by a refreshing and sparkling acidity which makes this an excellent wine to enjoy on its own or with fresh and natural dishes.

Pinot Noir Rosé

 

Very pleasant deep rosé with strawberries, plums and delicate spices hints. Smooth and elegant balance on the palate, between acidity, sweetness and persistence. A young, fresh and brilliant wine, very representative of the variety. Great as aperitif with desserts and some dishes like traditional turkey and roasted octopus.

Carmenere

 

The Carmenere Clava is an intense ruby colour with a spicy taste accompanied by fresh wild fruits; in particular strawberries and blackberries with a touch of pepper. It is fresh, young and intense with a great body and presence. It is a wine that faithfully represents the characteristics of this variety.

Pinot Noir

 

The main characteristics of the Casablanca Valley come together in this wine. The influence of the cool breeze from the Pacific Ocean allows the grapes to ripen slowly at the same time keeping intact the intense aromas and flavours. The Pinot Noir Clava represents the terroir of the region emphasizing its intensity and complexity with a well balanced acidity.

Cabernet Sauvignon

 

An intense ruby colour with tinge of black and purple. Most notable in its taste are flavours such as cherries, ripe strawberries and wild fruits accompanied by a subtle taste of chocolate. It is a concentrated, structured wine which is rich on firm and ripe tannins with outstanding elegance, depth and balance. An authentic Cabernet Sauvignon.

Syrah

 

This Syrah Clava with its deep red and shades of purple entices you to taste and get to know this extravagant variety. Its intense and spicy aroma reminds us of common elements used in gastronomy: black pepper, cloves and bay leaf make a perfect combination with the tart red fruits so typical of our native flora, which put together, produce its freshness.
