Description

Description A DISHWASHER
[0001] The present invention relates to a dishwasher that provides an effective washing particularly in regions where water hardness is high.
[0002] In all of the state-of-the-art dishwashers, supplementary cleaning agents called rinsing aids are used alongside the detergent in order to increase the washing effectiveness during the washing process. The rinsing aid forms a thin film layer on the washed items. This layer provides the water to easily flow over the items by reducing its surface tension. The dirt particles that might stay in the rinsing water are removed with water without clinging to the suriace of the washed items by using the rinsing aid.
[0003] The rinsing aid in the dishwashers is automatically dosaged by the state-of-the-art automatic dosage unit and is delivered to the washing tub. The rinsing aid prevents the water spots from being left on the items to be washed. The amount of rinsing aid delivered into the washing tub is changed depending on parameters like the hardness of water, the preferences of the user etc.
[0004] In dishwashers, the washing and/or drying performances are inversely proportional to the hardness degree of the water. In order to decrease the hardness of water, the water used for washing is first passed over an ion exchanger, e.g. resin, and the hardness of the water is reduced. However, in time, the ion exchanger can no longer absorb the calcium and magnesium ions. Therefore the ion exchanger is kept in a salt compound from time to time that provides to remove the calcium and magnesium ions and to enrich with sodium ions again. This process is called regeneration.
[0005] When the dishwasher is set up, the hardness of the water from the main supply is measured and the regeneration adjustment of the machine is made accordingly, determining the frequency of the regeneration process. The high hardness of the main supply water results in stains of lime and water left on the washed items and does not meet the expectations of the user. The softening of the main supply of water cannot be at the desired level particularly in regions with a very high water hardness and this results in the ineffective utilization of the rinsing aid.
[0006] In state-of-the-art Great Britain Patent Application no. GB2052251, a description is given for a method of measuring the suriace tension and/or the water hardness and/or the electrical conductivity and/or the pH value of the washing liquid for the machine, and regulating the volume of water supplied to the machine and/or the number of changes of such water, and/or the metering of the washing agent in dependence on the measurement(s) made.
[0007] In another state-of-the-art document, the United States of America Patent no.
US5681400, a description is given for a washing machine wherein the washing agent and the additive are controlled at certain time intervals and the amounts are kept at a certain level.
[0008] When the user keeps on using the dishwasher when the salt is under a determined level or is finished, lime and water marks form on the washed load after the washing process.
[0009] The object of the present invention is the realization of a dishwasher wherein the formation of lime and water marks on the washed items is prevented and the drying performance is improved.
[0010] The dishwasher realized in order to fulfill the objectives of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and dependent claims thereof, comprises a control unit that provides a larger amount of rinsing aid than the amount adjusted by the user, to be delivered to the washing tub by the dosage unit if the salt quantity used in the regeneration process is lower than a certain level or if the salt is finished.
[0011] In the embodiment of the present invention, there is no need to do any measurements or use any sensors to determine the amount of the rinsing aid. Since sensors are not used, adversities stemming from measurement and evaluation errors are averted, control of the rinsing aid addition is made easier and cost advantage is provided.
[0012] By way of the present invention, if the dishwasher is continued to be used when the salt amount fills below a certain level, the spots of lime and water that remain on the washed items is prevented and the drying performance of the dishwasher is enhanced.
[0013] The dishwasher realized in order to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
[0014] Rgure 1 - is the schematic view of a dishwasher.
[0015] Elements shown in figures are numbered as follows:
1. Dishwasher
2. Washing tub
3. Dosage unit
4. Salt chamber
5. Control unit
[0016] The dishwasher (1) of the present invention comprises a washing tub (2) wherein items to be washed are emplaced, a dosage unit (3) that delivers the washing agent and the rinsing aid to the washing tub (2) in the washing cycles made up of various steps such as pre -washing, main washing, rinsing, a salt chamber (4) into which the salt used in the regeneration process is put, and a control unit (5) that maintains the control of the dosage unit (3) and amount of salt (Rgure 1).
[0017] The control unit (5) provides a larger amount of rinsing aid (X+AX) than the amount (X) adjusted by the user to be delivered into the washing tub (2) by means of the dosage unit (3) when the salt amount remaining in the salt chamber (4) fills below a certain level.
[0018] By this embodiment, even if the dishwasher (1) is continued to be utilized by the user when the salt reaches an inadequate level, the washing and the drying processes can still be carried out effectively by the dishwasher (1) for a certain period of time.
[0019] In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) increases the amount of the rinsing aid used after more than one washing process and provides to deliver to the washing tub (2) by the dosage unit (3) when the regeneration adjustment is selected to be at the lowest level and when the salt amount fills below a certain level. In this embodiment, since the regeneration adjustment is at the lowest level, the increase of the rinsing aid amount is delayed because the reduction of the salt amount is expected to have adverse effects on the washing performance only after a couple of washing processes.
[0020] In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (5) provides a larger amount of rinsing aid (X+AX) than the amount (X) adjusted by the user to be delivered into the washing tub (2) by means of the dosage unit (3) if the regeneration adjustment is set to the highest position.
[0021] When the dishwasher (1) is set up by the service operator, the hardness of the water from the main supply that is connected to the dishwasher (1) is measured and the frequency of the regeneration process is determined by setting the regeneration adjustment of the machine accordingly. In this embodiment, the regeneration adjustment is set to the highest position in regions with a high water hardness to provide the regeneration process to be done frequently. The control unit (5) provides a larger amount of rinsing aid (X+AX) than the amount (X) adjusted by the user to be delivered into the washing tub (2) by means of the dosage unit (3) if the regeneration adjustment is set to the highest position whereat the regeneration process is done most frequently.
[0022] In all the embodiments of the present invention, the control unit (5) informs and warns the user about the salt level by means of a display.
[0023] By way of the present invention, the effective use of the rinsing aid is provided by the user when the salt level of the dishwasher (1) drops to an inadequate level or when the main supply water cannot be softened as desired in regions with a high water hardness level.
