Abstract

The invention relates to self service devices which can be operated by means of a mobile device, in particular for maintenance operations.

Description

Drahtlose Bedienung von SelbstbedienungsgerätenWireless operation of self-service devices
1. Technisches Gebiet1. Technical field
The invention relates to self-service devices such as automated teller machines, account statement printers and information terminals, which comprise a lockable housing and a control unit arranged inside the housing.
2. Stand der Technik2. State of the art
With the help of a control unit, self-service devices control input and output components and operating states such as Money or paper supplies and error messages are monitored and queried. A distinction must be made between a normal operating mode for the customer and an extended maintenance operating mode. In the latter case, a service technician identifies himself e.g. with his user ID and a password to the self-service device (login procedure) and calls up a desired control or monitoring function.

Either a so-called operator panel, which is a simple keyboard and display device that is connected to the control unit via a cable, or the customer control panel is used as the control unit. The operator panel is located inside the housing and is accessible via a closable opening on the rear of the housing. This arrangement is found above all in devices that are installed in a building wall and are only accessible to a limited extent from the outside, ie from the street side. Diese Peripherieeinheiten sind bei geschlossenem Gehäuse von außen zugänglich.FIG. 1 shows an automated teller machine 10 according to the invention and a portable computer 12 for operating a control unit of the automated teller machine 10, which is not shown here in detail. The automated teller machine 10 is installed in a building wall (not shown here) and has its front side 14 facing the street side. A control panel 16 of the automated teller machine 10 is arranged on the front side 14. The control panel 16 includes a keyboard 18, an output slot 20 for banknotes, a screen 22 and an insertion slot 24 for credit cards. These peripheral units are accessible from the outside when the housing is closed.
The portable computer 12 has a keypad 26, an LCD screen 28 (liquid crystal display) and a first antenna 30. A second antenna (not shown here) is located in the automatic teller machine 10. The cash dispenser The automatic machine 10 and the portable computer 12 are connected to one another via a wireless connection 32.
In order to check, for example, the fill level of cash cassettes (not shown here) of the automated teller machine 10, the connection 32 is set up in this example according to the WAP (Wireless Application Protrocol). Commands for displaying a screen mask on the LCD screen 28 are transmitted to the portable computer 12 via the connection 32. With the help of this screen mask, a service technician is asked to enter his user ID and a password. The data entered via the keypad 26 are transmitted to the control unit of the automatic teller machine 10 via the wireless connection 32. After the user input has been successfully checked, a further screen mask is displayed on the LCD screen 28, which offers the service technician access to various query and control functions. The service technician now calls up a corresponding function for querying the fill level of the cash cassettes. The result of this query, i.e. the fill levels of the various cash cassettes of the cash dispenser 10 are displayed on the LCD screen 28. If it is necessary to refill the cash cassettes, the service technician opens the cash dispenser 10 at the rear and places the required amount of bank notes in the corresponding cash cassettes.
It should be noted that the service technician does not enter the building in the wall of which the ATM 10 is installed until the housing of the ATM 10 is opened. In contrast to this, in the case of cash dispensers in the prior art, it is necessary to enter the building in order to query the cash holdings because the control unit for the control unit of the cash dispenser is located inside the cash dispenser and an opening of the Cash dispensers are only possible from the rear, ie from the inside of the building.
Ferner braucht das Abarbeiten des Programms, das den Dialog mit dem Kunden führt, während der Datenübertragung nicht unterbrochen zu werden.FIG. 2 shows the automated teller machine 10 and the portable computer 12, the maintenance work being carried out this time from the front 14 of the automated teller machine 10. This means that the service technician stands in front of the automated teller machine 10, for example in order to transmit a new program for the control unit of the automated teller machine 10. After a successful login process, the new program is stored via the connection 32 in a memory (not shown here) of the cash dispenser 10. After the data transfer has been completed, the new program is started. It should be noted that an opening of the ATM housing is not necessary for this process, which means a shortening of this process compared to devices in the prior art. Furthermore, the execution of the program, which engages in dialogue with the customer, need not be interrupted during the data transmission.
Dem Kunden werden somit Reklamationen bei der Bank erleichtert.FIG. 3 shows a so-called service terminal 34 and a portable computer 36 of a customer. The service terminal 34 allows the customer to call up information from his bank, to display account statements, to carry out transfers, to process standing orders and to carry out other banking transactions. The data is transmitted via a further wireless connection 38 with the aid of infrared signals. For this purpose, a first and a second infrared interface are located in the service terminal 34 and in the portable computer 36. Information retrieved, such as stock prices or bank statements, can be stored via the infrared connection 38 on a memory of the portable computer 36 (not shown here) for later processing. Furthermore, the invention makes it possible for the sequence of the dialogue with the service terminal to be logged and stored on the portable computer. Complaints to the bank are thus made easier for the customer.
It is also conceivable that a letter stored on the portable computer is transmitted to the service terminal and from there is forwarded to an employee of the bank. It is thus clear that the invention simplifies and accelerates the carrying out of maintenance and monitoring tasks, and new applications for customer traffic arise.
