DESRICPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Figure 1 shows a possible embodiment of the safety bag in accordance with the present invention which bag is a sewn or welded construction. A bag compartment 1 for safe keeping valuables is provided with expansion inserts 5 , and the opening of the bag compartment 1 fastens with a fastening means 4 which is preferably a
watertight zip-fastener. A front wall 9 and a rear wall 10 of the bag compartment 1 is made of waterproof material, and the bag compartment 1 is encircled by an elastic border 3 so that, on the one hand, the size of the bag compartment 1 can change flexible and, on the other hand, the bag compartment 1 can more smoothly accomodated to the shape of the arm or leg.
Bearing straps 2 fixed to the walls of the bag compartment 1 make possible to attach the bag on the arm or leg or, if required, the waist. The bearing straps 2 can be made of a flexible and elastic fabric, such as rubber-threaded band, however, they can be made of a longitudinally non-stretchy fabric, too. In the latter case, one or more elastic strap portions 8 should be inserted into the bearing straps 2 so that the safety bag will not cause any discomfort nor squeeze the muscles, i.e. it will not hinder the free movement while wearing it.
The bearing straps 2 are attached on the limb with velcro so that their position and length can be varied and adjusted as required. More specifically, two velcro-type strap portions, each formed at one of the free end portions of the bearing strap 2, provide an overlappable strap portion of a relatively great ex- tent; in fact, a hitching strap portion 6 having its outward surface barbed is placed at the one free end portion of the bearing strap 2 while a sticking strap portion 7 having its inward surface (i.e. the surface opposite to the barbed surface) napped is placed at the other free end portion of the bearing strap 2 so that a
longitudinally adjustable and firm connection will be provided by overlapping the two free end portions of the bearing strap 2.
Figure 2 shows the inside of the safety bag in accordance with the present invention. To ensure that the bag will be comfortably wearable, the inside sur¬ face of the bag is smooth and the length of the velcro-type strap portions overlapping each other is choosen so that the sticking strap portion 7 fixed to the inward surface of the bearing strap 2 will lie in its whole length on to the engaging hitching strap portion 6.
The dimensions of bag compartment 1 of the safety bag can vary with the part of body whereon the bag is to wear; preferably, the bag compartment 1 is about 10 - 40 cm long, about 1 - 10 cm deep and about 5 - 20 cm high. The bearing strap 2 of the bag, instead of the velcro-type fastening means described above, can also be fastened with a clamp.
The bag, depending on its material, can be produced by different manufacturing processes. In case of a fabric woven or machine-knitted of natural fibrous material, such as flax, cotton etc., the bag can be produced by sewing. In case of synthetic materials, such as po- lyamide, polyester, polypropylene or polyethylene, instead of sewing, high-frequency or ultrasonic welding can also be used. Moreover, the parts of the bag can also be assembled by cementing. Preferably, permeable materials (especially natural materials, including
leather) should be coated with a thin, watertight layer befor using for manufacturing the bag, or, on the other hand, the bag itself should be rendered waterproof (i.e. impregnated) after assembly.
Figure 3 shows a possible construction for covering the opening of the bag compartment 1 in a watertight way: a watertight strip 19 made out of a sheet with adhesive characteristic is placed over the fastening means 4 (zip-fastener or the like) with which the opening fastens. The watertight strip 19 is fixed by sewing or welding alongside one of the longitudinal edges of the opening while, alongside the other edge, it can be also fastened with velcro on to the front wall 9. The one part of the velcro, for example a hitching strip 6a, is fixed on to the watertight strip 19 while the other part of the velcro, for example a sticking strip 7a, is fixed on to the front wall 9. Preferably, the velcro extends not only alongside the watertight strip 19 but it spreads over the two end areas thereof, too.
Figure 4 shows a safety bag in accordance with the present invention which bag is produced by a manufactoring process entirely different from that of the bag illustrated in Fig. 1. In this case, the bag compartment 1 is formed of plastic or out of thin metal plate by moulding or deep-drawing, respectively; al¬ though the detachable or openable lid 13 is firm enough alongside its edge 14, nevertheless the lid 13 itself and/or the side wall 12 itself have the ability to deform resiliently.
With the intention that the pockets 11 behind the opening 18 of the bag compartment 1 can be seen, the lid 13 is shown in Fig. 4 as if were made out of a transparent sheet. Talking of that, it should be re marked that the safety bag shown in Fig. 1 may have one or more inner pockets 11 without affecting the essen tials of the present invention.
The bearing strap 2 can also be made of a plastic or a thin metal sheet identical to the material used for making the bag itself and, in case of this embodiment, it is again advantageous to insert an elastic strap portion 8 into the bearing strap 2. The connection of the two end portions of the bearing strap 2 is not shown in Fig. 4; either the velcro-type fastening means described previously or any well-known clamp or buckle means can be used for fastening the bearing strap 2.
Figure 5 and 6 show two possible constructions for engaging the 13 lid with the edge 14 of the side wall 12 in a watertight way; both cross sectional partial views are taken along the direction of line A - A indicated in Fig. 4. In both cases, the edge of the side wall 12 and the edge of the lid 13 are formed as curved, engaging edges provided with complementary profiles. The lid 13 can be snapped into the edge of the side wall 12 elastically.
Referring to Figure 5, it shows an alternative wherein the lid 13 engages with the side wall 12 inwardly, i.e. a sealing flange 15b formed on the lid 13 engages with
a sealing flange 15a of the side wall 12.
Figure 6 shows another alternative wherein the sealing flange 16b of the side wall is encircled by the sealing flange 16a of the lid 13 outwardly.
Figure 7 shows a further alternative for covering the opening of the bag compartment 1 of the safety bag. The opening 18 is covered with a lid 13 which is pivotal about a hinge joint 17 while, on the opposite side, a fastening means is formed. The fastening means is a well-known spring lock construction which consist of a latch 20a placed on the lid 13 and a recess 20b formed in the sidewall 12. The latch 20a is moved by a knob 21.
The side wall 12, similarly to the construction de- scribed previously, is covered with the lid 13 due to form-fitting in a watertight way and the edges may have the profiles shown in Fig. 5 and 6.
Furthermore, in case of the detachable lid 13 shown in Fig. 4, one or more fastening means can also be used for preventing the lid 13 from coming off accidentally.
The safety bag* in accordance with the present in¬ vention may have a variety of applications, especially for safe keeping valuables while bathing or doing other water sports. The safety bag can readily be manu- factured by mass production.
