Description

G. G. TAUBER Jan. 3, 1967 HOLDER Filed Dec. 25, 1965 INVENTOR ATTORNEY United States Patent Ofiice 3,295,235 Patented Jan. 3, 13$? 3,295,235 HOLDER Gabriel G. Tauber, 7600 Georgia Ave. NW., Washington, DC, ZllillZ Filed Dec. 23, 1965, Ser'. No. 515,866 1 Claim. (Cl. lth-1.5)
This invention pertains to holders generally, and more particularly, to an improved holder finding particular utility in the display of convention badges and the like in association with articles of wearing apparel. The invention is an improvement on the subject matter of United States Patent No. 3,216,135. In the aforesaid patent, a convention badge holder comprising superposed panels, connected in such manner as to provide upper and lower compartments, and apparel engagement means on one of said panels is disclosed. Such holders have found substantial acceptance in the industry, and have met the objective of providing a dual compartment holder attachable to clothing without damage to the clothing and unlikely to become lost.
The present invention provides a holder which maintains the objectives of the previously patented device, while at the same time eliminating the need for the provision of separate apparel engagement means. The invention further provides novel means for the uniform positioning of the exposed compartment thereof.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a dual compartment holder having a storage compartment and an exposed compartment for an identity badge or the like, wherein the natural tendency of the exposed compartment to gravitate to a folded location is employed in maintaining the desired position thereof in use.
Additional objects and advantages will occur to those skilled in the art upon consideration of the following specification, when read in conjunction with the annexed drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a holder constructed and assembled in accordance with the teachings of this invention;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view showing the device in use;
FIGURE 3 is an enlarged perspective view showing the device in a flattened position; and
FIGURE 4 is an enlarged, foreshortened sectional view, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of FIGURE 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Proceeding to a more detailed description of the invention, the holder per se is generally designated in the drawing by reference numeral 10. Referring to FIG- URE 2, the device ll!) is there shown in a typical environment of usesupported on the top edge 12 of a pocket 14- of a jacket 16 or similar item of wearing apparel.
The holder comprises elongated panel means formed of substantially transparent plastic material or the like, such as flexible, thin gauge vinyl. The panel means include a first panel 13 and an enlarged second panel 20. The panels are superposed and the second panel 20, being of increased width in relation to the first panel, has an extended side portion 22. Each panel is divided into a short section 24 and an elongated section 26, and the sections are connected to each other at at least two of their adjacent outer edges 28, 30 and 32, 34. The manner of connection is optional, but heat sealing has been found desirable and efiective. This manner of connection further provides a rigidifying seam 36 (FIGURE 4-) extending about the periphery of the device, and which may be pressed into the extended side portion 22 despite its lack of an overlying panel.
Connection means 38 secure the first and second panels together and separate the respective sections thereof. The connection means comprises dual, spaced apart transverse lines 4%, 42 of heat seal or the equivalent. A score line 44 is interposed between the lines 40 and 42, the area encompassed by the connection means and bounded by lines 40 and 42 effectively forming a fold portion 46. The device is permanently creased along the score line 44- and tends to remain in the bent over position shown in FIGURE 4.
The connection of the panel sections at three edges, edges 28, 3t] and line 42 of the short sections 24, and edges 34, 32 and line 40 of the elongated sections 26, results in the formation of two compartments. Panel sections 24 define a card exhibiting compartment 47. The compartment 47 receives an indicia bearing card 48 which may have a wearers name or the like thereon. Panels 26 similarly define a compartment 5%, adapted to receive a card hearing information, or the like, not shown. The inset edge 52 of the first panel 18 may be notched, as at 54, to provide ease of access to the compartment 59.
In use, the device is mounted within a pocket 14 by positioning of the portion having the compartment 50 within the pocket. The fold portion 46 is rested on the pocket edge 12 with the compartment 47 exposed to view as shown in FIGURE 2, thus exhibiting its name card.
Having described and illustrated an embodiment of this invention in some detail, it will be understood that this description and illustration is oifered only by way of example, and that the invention is to be limited in scope only by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A holder for a substantially rectangular indicia bearing card of given depth and for an information card of a depth greater than that of the indicia bearing card, the holder being worn with an article of apparel which includes a pocket having a top edge, the holder comprising:
elongated panel means of transparent plastic material including first and second panels, each panel having an elongated section and a relatively short section; each of the sections having edges;
means securing the respective elongated sections to one another at three of said edges to provide a compartment for the information card, the information card being disposed therein and one of the edges of one of the elongated sections being free to provide access to the compartment for placement and removal of the information card, the information card serving to rigidity the compartment and the compartment and information card being disposed in the pocket of said apparel;
means securing the respective relatively short sections to one another at three of their adjacent edges to provide a badge holding compartment for the indicia bearing badge, the badge holding compartment being of a depth slightly greater than the depth of the card, and one of the edges of the short sections being free to provide access to the badge holding compartment;
the panel means having a common fold line pressed therein between the sections and being acutely bent and pressed about said fold line providing a creased fold portion intermediate the compartments;
the means securing the sections to one another being heat seals, whereby a combined heat seal and crease is provided; and
the fold portion resting on the top edge of the apparel pocket with the information card disposed within the apparel pocket and the badge holder displayed exteriorly thereof.
