Application November 12, I949, Serial No. 126.784
This invention relates to telephones and particularly to a supporting stand and cabinet for thetransmitter-receiver, hereinafter referred to as the receiver of such instruments;
,An object of this invention is to provide a i stand forming an enclosing means inside of which the telephone receiver may be mounted, and a cabinet having a front opening facing the telephone dial, and means whereby a pad and pencil supporting member is slidably mounted in the compartment and movable out of the compartment into service position, or which may be moved into the compartment into concealment therein.
Another object of this inventionis to provide a telephone stand and cabinet comprising a writing pad and pencil and an indicia pad, arranged so as to be movable outwardly to a convenient position to permit writing memoranda while conversing on the telephone.
Another object of this invention is to provid a member connecting the writing pad carrier and an extension carrying the indicia pad, the connecting member being of a height to close the front opening in the cabinet, the connecting member permitting the indicia member to be folded into superposed relation with the slidable pad carrier member to permit both of the said members to be moved into concealment in the cabinet.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention will be hereinafter more particularly described, and the combination and arrangement of parts will be shown in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims which form part of this specification.
Reference will now be had to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which: I
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the telephone supporting stand and cabinet, the pad supporting member and the indicia carrying extension being shown in operating position outside the compartment.
Figure 2 is a front view of the device with the pad supporting member and the indicia carrying extension moved into concealment into the compartment.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the pad supporting member and the indicia carrying extension in operating position outside the compartment, the compartment being shown in crosssection, the section being taken as on line 3-3 in. 1'.
3 Claims. (01. 4010.5)
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view of the pad supporting member and the indicia carrying extension in operating position outside the compartment, the compartment being also shown in cross-section, the section being taken on line 4-4 in Figure 3.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, the numeral [0 indicates a supporting stand and cabinet embodying the invention and comprising a cabinet ll of rectangular cross-section and having an opening I2 in a side wall l3. The cabinet II has a base I4 and a top l5.
As best shown inFigure 4, the upright side Walls l6, l6 and the rear wall ll defining the cabinet ll terminate at a substantial distance above the cabinet to form an upper enclosing member 20 of a size to receive a telephone receiver 2| in any suitable position.
A carrying member 22 of a size to be insertible in the opening I2 is slidably mounted in said opening and is suitably connected by a flexible fabric 23 to the rear wall I! of the cabinet H so that it cannot be pulled out or disengaged from the. cabinet.
In the embodiment shown, the cloth 23 is scored along parallel lines 24 and formed into small folds 25 so that the cloth may be drawn together into folds and into a very small space 'at the rear of the cabinet.
The carrying member 22 has a pocket 26 serving to receive the cardboard back of a writing pad 2! whereby the pad is retained on the carrying member. The carrying member 22 is integral with a'connecting member 28 and with an extension 29 having a, pocket 30 serving to receive the cardboard back of an indicia pad 3|.
A pencil 32 is secured by an elastic cord 33 to the upper face of the connecting member 28. The connecting member is of a height to close the opening l2 in the cabinet I I.
In operation, best shown in Figure 1, the carrying member 22 is outside the cabinet II with the Writing pad 21 and the pencil 32 and the indicia pad 3| in convenient position to permit writing memoranda while conversing on the telephone.
In inoperative position, shown in Figure 2, the indicia carrying extension 29 is folded into superposed relation with the pad Carrying member 22 and both members moved into concealment in the cabinet with only the connecting member visible in front of the cabinet.
It is to be noted that score lines 35 and 36 defining the side edges of the connecting member 28, permit the carrying member 22 and the extension member 20 to fold in right-angular relation with the connecting member 28, in the concealed or non-service position shown in Figure 2.
In accordance with the patent statutes I have described and illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that various changes and modifications can be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claims. V v
I claim:
1. A telephone supporting stand and cabinet comprising an enclosing member in which a telephone receiver is retained, said cabinet having a side opening facing the telephone dial, a pad supporting member slidable into and out of said cabinet, flexible means securing said slidable member to the rear wall of said cabinet to prevent said slidable member from being pulled out and disengaged from said cabinet, said slidable member .having a foldable indicia carrying extension, a narrow wall foldably connecting said slidable member and said indicia member and having meansfor retaining a pencil thereon, said narrow foldable pencil carrying wall permitting said indicia member to be ,foldable into superposed relation with said slidable member to permit both of said members to be moved into said cabinet into concealment therein, while said pencil carrying wall covers said front opening. '2. A telephone supporting stand and cabinet comprising an upper enclosing member in 'which a telephone receiver is retained, said cabinet having a side opening facing the telephone dial,
.a pad "supporting :member s1idable,;.into and out of said cabinet, flexible means securing said slidable pad supporting member to the rear wall of said cabinet to prevent said slidable member from being pulled out and disengaged from said cabinet, said slidable pad supporting member 4 v 1 having a foldable indicia carrying extension, connecting means foldably connecting said slidable pad supporting member and said indicia member and having means for retaining a pencil 5 thereon, said foldable pencil carrying connecting means permitting said indicia member to be foldable into superposed relation with said slidable member to permit both of said members to be moved into said compartment into concealment therein, while said connecting means covers said front opening. 1
3. A telephone supporting stand and cabinet comprising an upper enclosing member in which .a, telephone .receiver is retained, said cabinet having a side opening facing the telephone dial, ae pad carrying member slidable into and out of said cabinet, flexible means securing said pad carrying member to the rear wall of said cabinet to prevent said member from being pulled out and disengaged from said cabinet, said pad carrying member having a foldable indiciacarrying extension, means foldably connecting said-pad carrying memberand said indicia member, said connecting means permitting said indicia member tobe folded into superposed relation .with said -slidable member to permit both ,of jsaid members to :be moved into. said cabinetintoncon cealment therein, while said connecting means covers said front opening insaid cabinet.
