1 Claim.

This invention relates to billfolds.

An object of this invention is to provide a billfold which is adapted to be formed out of a single sheet of leather or other flexible material which will retain its assembled position without the use of stitching or other securing means.

Another object of this invention is to provide a billfold of the stitchless type which also includes a pair of pockets for holding cards, coins or like articles.

A further object of this invention is to provide a billfold which will not split or come apart due to rotting or breaking of stitches.

To the foregoing objects. and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawings and first to Figure 1, the numeral l designates generally a substantially rectangular flexible sheet which may be formed of leather or other suitable material. The sheet I0 is adapted to be folded along the line H so as to provide a rectangular inside wall 12 and a substantially rectangular outer wall I 3. The wall I 2 on its free edge is notched out as indicated at I4, the purpose for which will be hereinafter described. The sheet Ill is also adapted to be folded along the line l so as to provide a rectangular outer wall I6 when the billfold is in open position.

A rectangular outer wall I 1 extends from the free longitudinal edge of Wall Hi, there being a fold line I8 between the two walls I6 and I1. The wall I6 is slit along the line is thereby forming a pair of tongues or flaps 26 and 2i which are adapted to be folded back onto the wall I 6 and adhesively secured thereto. The flaps '20 and 2| are shown in Figure 3 being folded back on the inner side of the wall [6 thereby providing a relatively wide slot 22. The wall It is also formed with a pair of triangular flaps 23 and 24 which are adapted to be oppositely folded back and adhesively secured to the wall I! and the wall [3, respectively.

The wall I6 at a point adjacent the outer ends thereof is formed with a pair of slots 25 and 26 which form keepers within which a pair of lock ing tongues 21 and 28 extending from the outer ends of the wall 13 are adapted to engage. The wall l6 has extending from one end thereof an elongated tongue 29 terminating in a flap 30 which is formed by bending the tongue 29 along the line 3|. A second tongue 32 extends from the opposite end of the Wall I 6 and is formed with a flap 33 which is folded along the line 34. A snap fastener 35 is secured to the wall it between the flap 2| and the slot 26 and a complementary snap fastener element 36 is secured to the flap 33. The tongue 32 is folded inwardly along the inner side of the wall It and the tongue 33 is bent around the inner edge of the slot 22 and then extended on the outer face of the wall l6, as shown in Figure 3, so that the snap fastener 36 carried by the flap 33 may engage the snap fastener 35 carried by the wall l6.

The tongue 29 is folded along the inner side of the wall [6 and the flap 30 is then folded through the slot 22 on the outer side of the wall It as shown in Figure 3. The tongue 32 forms with the wall [6 a pocket 31 and the tongue 29 forms with the wall I6 a second pocket 38.

In the initial folding of the blank sheet In the tongues 29 and 32 are folded inwardly, and toward the viewer as positioned where observing Figure 1, on the back side of wall l6 and the flaps 30 and 33 extended away from the viewer through the slot 22. Wall I1 is then folded downwardly on top of tongues 29 and 32 and wall l2 is folded upwardly on the top of wall l3 whereupon the entire assembly above line [5 is folded downwardly along the line IS on top of the walls [2 and I3 with the wall I! being immediately adjacent to the wall I2. This will dispose the wall l6 uppermost and the locking flaps 21 and 28 on the opposite ends of wall l3, which will be on the bottom, may now be folded inwardly over the ends of the wall I6 and inserted in the keepers or . Slits 25 and 26, respectively.

The now folded billfold may be bent along the medial line 39 so as to provide a compact folded billfold. The space between the wall I! and the inner Wall l2 will form the pocket 40 for receiving bills with the walls l2 and H forming the lining thereof, whereas the pockets which open on the inner portion of the billfold formed by the closure flaps 30 and 33 and the tongues 29 and 32 are designed for receiving coins, cards or other small articles.

The billfold hereinbefore described is constructed out of a single sheet of flexible material such as leather or the like and due to the fact that no stitching is used in the formation of the billfold, the walls forming the billfold will not separate due to the rotting or tearing of the threads as is customary with stitched billfolds.

I claim:

A stitchless billfold comprising a substantially rectangular blank divided into four sections by three parallel fold lines, one of the intermediate sections forming an outer wall and the other of the intermediate sections forming an inner billfold wall, the end sections providing a pair of lining walls, said inner wall section being formed with a full Width slot disposed along the medial line thereof, an elongated pocket forming tongue extending from each of the opposite ends of said inner Wall section, each of said tongues having a pocket closing flap on the free end thereof adapted to extend through said medial slot, said outer wall section being formed with a locking tongue extending from each of the opposite ends thereof, and a pair of locking-tongue receiving slots formed in said inner wall section disposed parallel to said medial slot and spaced equidistantly from and adjacent to the opposite ends of said inner wall section, said pair of slots being adapted to receive the corresponding ones of said locking-tongues for holding the folded blank in assembled billfold forming relationship.
