Description

Aug. 2, 1949. A. B. vAslLAs COMPACT COMPOSITE WALLET Filed Deo. 20, 1946 Patented Aug. 2, 1949 UNITED- STATES PATENT OFFICE COMPACT COMPOSITE WALLET Andrew B. Vasilas, Shreveport, La. Application December 20, 1946, Serial No. 717,534
(Cl. 15G- 35) 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to an improved pocket wallet, and one of the objects is to provide a compact wallet having a holder for coins, a holder for folding money bills which folds neatly within the outer wings of the wallet, identifying card holders, and means for coupling the marginal edges of the enclosing wings to each other so as to confine all of the holding members or parts between the two wings, and provide a compact wallet construction, which may be used by either a man or woman, and which will provide complete personal service.
With the above and other objects in View the invention comprises certain new and useful constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specilicaton, and fully illustrated in the drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective view, showing the improved wallet in closed condition.
Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the wallet in open condition.
Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing one wing of the bill holder in raised position.
Fig. 4 -is a similar view, showing the face view of the bill holder, and the coin holder partly separated from the adjacent Wing of the wallet.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view, showing the identication panel in open position, and the observation window of the adjacent wing.
Fig. 6 is a detail sectional view, taken on line 6-6 of Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, 5 designates an enclosing wrapper having a left wing 6 and a right wing 1, and a flexible connecting hinge forming portion or strip 8. The wrapper 5 is provided with a marginal edging 9 which is equipped with a left series of slide fastener hooks I and a right series of slide fastener hooks II, which are placed in interlocking relation with each other by means of the slide l2.
The left wing G is provided w-ith an obs-ervation window I3, which is faced with a strip of transparent plastic material, and a plurality of transparent envelopes I4, I and I6 is hinged to the flexible hinge forming strip 8. The outermost plastic or transparent envelope I4 is provided with data I1 giving the name and address of the owner of the wallet, which becomes visible through the window I3 when the wallet is in closed condition, as shown in Fig. 1. In this way any finder of a lost wallet embodying my invention, may readily identify the owner and take the necessary steps to return it.
Each of the envelopes lil, I5 and I6 is adapted to hold for full display any identification cards, such as membership cards of societies, unions or organizations, or insurance or social security identification cards.
Hinged to the flexible portion 8 is a folding leather bill holder I8, which is provided with a snap button fastener I9, and which is adapted to fold transversely to provide a long wing 20 and a short wing 2 I, which folds against the side of the long wing 2D, to reduce the overall length of the bill holder. One side of the bill holder is provided with a window 22 for holding an identification or other photograph.
Attached to the bill holder or formed on it is a loose coin envelope 23, which is hinged along a vertical line at 24, and provided with a closing tab 25, which is equipped with a snap button fastener 26, so that the contents of the coin holding envelope may be retained against loss.
The transparent envelopes, the bill fold and the coin envelope are neatly received within the compartments provided on the right and left wings of the wallet, by the marginal edging which carries the slide fastener hooks, which thus provides the required spacing for the side wings. By moving the slide I2 the two wings will be coupled to each other, thus placing the interior members or holders and their contents under such compression as this coupling action will cause.
The completed wallet may be carried by either a man or woman, and provides a very compact structure, which may be readily concealed on the person or in any handbag or other piece of luggage.
It is understood that various changes in the details of construction, their combination and arrangement of parts, may be made in carrying out the invention, as defined in the claim herein set forth.
I claim as new and patentable:
A wallet comprising right and left wing portions, a exible connecting hinge forming portion securing the wing portions together, a leaflike member of flexible material disposed within said wing portions and stitched at the folding line of said member to the hinge forming portion of said wing portions, said leaf-like member forming at one side of the stitching line a bill holder and on the other side of the stitching line a coin envelope, said bill holder having an extension foldable out of said wing portions to pro- 3 vide access to the interior of the bill folder and REFERENCES CITED foldable into the Wing portions of the Wallet The following references are of record in the along a folding line substantially perpendicular to said stitching line to confine the bill holder me of thls patent in folded position within said Wing portions, the 5 UNITED STATES PA'IENTS coin envelope having a closing tab thereon, and Number Name Date means for closing the wallet wing portions about 1 123 136 Hano Feb. 9 1915 the said bill holder and coin envelope. 1:679578 Lorber Aug 7 1928 1,694,186 LEnfant Dec. 4, 1928 ANDREW B- VASILAS' 10 2,004,672 Penta June 11, 1935 2,087,922 Mayer 1 July 27, 1937 2,417,322 Plotzky Mar. 11, 1947
