ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 9, 1932 WESLEY H. LOOMIS, JR., OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI CURRENCY 0B LIKE BACKAGE Application filed December 9, 1929i Serial No. 412,760.
My invention relates to methods of and means for packaging paper currency, and has for its principal objects to facilitate selection of pieces of currency, to reduce the hazard of dispensing more than the intended number of pieces of a particular denomination, to render individual pieces of small denomination easily available in a package, and to reduce the extent of exposure of currency in a package containing a plurality of pieces of paper currency.
In accomplishing these and other objects folded twice to form three folds as illustrated of the invention I have provided improved details of structure, the preferred forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a package of paper currency constructed and packed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 2-2, V
Fig. 1. i
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a series of otes folded and arranged for packing in accordance with my invention.
Referring in detail to the drawings:
1 designates a container having a slotted portion 2 to receive a series of folded notes of one denomination, and a portion 3 for notes of other denominations.
The container is illustrated as a wallet, note case or pocket book for carrying paper currency, and adapted to the dimensions of notes in common use, whereby the notes ofa selected denomination may be folded as later described for packaging in the portion 2, and other notes may be disposed unfolded and flat in the portion 3.
The case preferably comprises integral walls 4L and 5 oined at their lower longitudinal edges 6 and at one end edge 7 to form a closed end.
The upper edge of the case in Fig. 1 is thus left open to form the mouth of the case, and a notch 8 is formed in the edge of the wall 4, in the portion 3 to facilitate access to notes contained in said portion.
The wall 5 is provided with a transverse slot 9 located in the portion 2 substantially centrally thereof having slightly greater cards orthe like.
portion 2 at selected positions adjacent the open edges thereof to secure the edge portions of the'walls' together and retain the notes mounted'therein'. The fasteners preferably comprise snap fasteners which may easily be operated for opening and closing the case portion'for installing a series of notes of a selected denomination.
The portion 2 is adapted to. contain notes in Fig. 3, and will have somewhat less than portion 3 may be folded once to form two folds to substantially register with the portion 2; and the case maybe folded on the line defining the two portions to produce a substantially square package. I
Patches'l2 may bemounted on the wall 4; on the portion 3 to form pockets to receive The notes selected forstorage in the slotted portionof the case are conditioned for package by folding each on parallel transverse linespreferably spaced equally from opposite end edges-of the notesto form three folds 13,
14 and 15. The end fold 15 of one note is thus .interlockingly engaged with the end fold 13 of anothernote, and all the selected notes are thus engagedto comprise a connected series. l
The series of interlocked notes is then deposited in the portion 2 of the case, the end fold 13 of the terminal note of the series is extended'through the slot 9, and the portion is closed and latched by the fasteners.
The seriesof folded notes forms a packet that is securely retained between the latched walls of the case portionQ. vVhena note is to be dispensed from'the series, the exposed fold 13 of the next note of the series, and
thus render the second note accessible for withdrawal.
tain paper currency of small denomination, for example dollar bills, and currency of various denominations may be stored in the portion 3. In use, the folded device may be easily carried, since it occupies small space and particularly since it extends over a small area.
lVh-en a small account is to be paid, the user need not unfold or open the case to extract a small note, and when the folded case is held in the hand only one note is visible. user may withdraw one note, and incidentally effect location of the end fold of the next note exteriorly of the case in accessible position.
The user may pay out one or more of the notes of small denomination, Without disclosing the number of notes of this or any other. denomination that the case contains.
Only one note can be Withdrawn from the portion 2 at one operation, and hazard of accidentally dispensing two or more notes is avoided.
The small notes are securely segregated from the large ones, due to the attention given them when folded and assembled in a series, and hazard of erroneously dispensing large notes with small ones is thus minimized.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is V V v 1. A device of the character described, comprising inner and outer side Walls having connected low-er edges joined to form a pocket, one end of the pocketbeing closed, means for fastening the. edgesflof the walls together adjacent the opposite end of the pocket to retain a packet of folded and inter.- locking notes adapted to be stored therein, the outer of said walls having a transverse slot adjacent the open end of the pocket for extending theend fold of said packet out:
wardly from the case for the purpose described. r
2. A device of the character described,
comprising inner and outer side walls having connected lower edges and joined at a point intermediate of thelr ends and at one end to form separate pockets, means located i at the other end of the side walls for fastening the edges of said side walls to retain va packet of folded and interlocking notes adapted to be stored therein, one of the side walls of the packet containing vpocket having a transverse slot adjacent the open end of the packet containing pocket'for extending the end fold of said packet outwardly from the case for the purpose described;-
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
