Die bekannten Verfahren zum Brennen und Sintern von Kalk o. dgl. im Trommelofen, der in der Längs- oder Querrichtung dauernd hin und her geschüttelt wird, haben den Nachteil, daß der oberhalb des Brenngutes liegende Teil der Trommelwand niemals mit dem Brenngut in Berührung kommt und die in ihm aufgespeicherte Wärme, abgesehen von der schwachen, durch die Heizgase zudem behinderten Strahlung, dem Brenngut verloren geht.
